5 Authentic Steps to Memorize the Quran Faster

Quran is the most beautiful book of Allah and reciting as well as memorizing it reaps great rewards for the believer. Learning the Quran is a physical, mental and spiritual journey that one embarks upon with the blessing of Allah (swt). The person who memorizes the Quran is known as Hafiz and has innumerous favors granted by Allah (swt) on the Day of Judgement.

Before embarking upon this challenging yet fruitful journey, the believer must make a sincere Dua to Allah (swt) to guide and help him along the way. One such preferable dua is:

Rabbi Zidnee Ilman
“My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.”

Some tips to help in answering how to memorize the Quran faster are as follows:

  1. Sincerity

When you start anything for the happiness, approval, and sake of only Allah, He himself makes the journey easier for you. Before starting Quran memorization, dwell through your inner motives for carrying out the deed. Is it for the sake of people or to show off to someone or only to attain the rewards of a beautiful Akhirat (the hereafter)? If your goal is anything but the last one, you may face difficulty in completing the memorization of the Quran. However, with a pure heart and strong intentions, Allah (swt) will help you in every step of the way and ensure that you rise up for the challenge even after shaky steps.

  1. Early Morning Memorization Consistency

It is no doubt true that there is barakah in the morning time. The best time to memorize the Quran is after fajr even before you do breakfast. When you learn something in the morning, chances are higher that you are able to memorize faster as well as retain it in your memory for a longer time.

Another key to effective memorization is consistency. This project of online hifz program is an important one and you cannot treat it as a second priority. You must dedicate enough time to its memorization every single day. No day is an off day. It may sound like a prison to the reader, but for the believer; this time spent on memorizing the Quran actually becomes their most peaceful and happiest time. And this blessing is undoubtedly from Allah (swt) that He makes this mental and physical exertion so rewarding and blissful.

  1. Multiple Recitation Buddies

To memorize the Quran by heart, you need to recite it many times. Before starting the hifz of the Quran, make sure you have more than one recitation buddy. Your buddies will encourage as well as listen to your recitation and point out mistakes in your grammar and memorization. Be sure to keep more than one recitation buddy so that you have more people to listen to you and also a backup in case one buddy is busy/not available.

If someone does not have a recitation buddy, they can also record their recitation on their phones. c

  1. Learn in Chunks

The most popular and widely accepted way of learning the Quran is breaking it into chunks. The first chunk should be the smaller surahs (chapters) from Juz 28-30. Learning smaller surahs gives the Hafiz a motivation of accomplishing many surahs very quickly. This motivation will help him/her in memorizing the bigger and more complicated surahs. Moreover, learning shorter surahs first gives the Hafiz the opportunity to recite them in daily Salah (prayers). Hence, these juz will be engraved in the person’s memory forever Insha’Allah.

After completing Juz 28-30, the believer can move on to the 1st Juz.

  1. Understand the Meanings

Understanding the meaning of what you are memorizing serves two purposes. Firstly, you will get more reward for understanding this holy book as well as memorizing it. Secondly, knowing what you are memorizing makes the process much smoother, faster and easier! Another advantage of Quran translation is that it will increase khushoo (humbleness) in your Salah.

Memorizing the Quran, based on your everyday goal can take a few months to a few years. Be sure to set achievable goals. For instance, if you set a goal of one page per day then ensure to achieve that every single day without losing focus. It may feel like the Quran and its memorization has taken over your entire world and life, but this in fact is a present from Allah to the believer. To be so engrossed in the Quran is not a blessing bestowed on everyone. Those who are lucky to be the chosen ones will inshAllah have a beautiful akhirat as well as worldly life.
